Apostle to the Apostles · Feast day July 22
St. Mary Magdalene
The feast day of St. Mary Magdalene is July 22, a feast in the US Catholic calendar. Traditionally invoked as patron of penitents and perfumers.
Life
The woman of Magdala out of whom the Lord cast seven devils, and who followed him from Galilee, provided for him from her means, and stood by the Cross when nearly all the men had fled.
Easter morning she came to the tomb while it was still dark, and was the first to see the risen Lord — mistaking him for the gardener until he said her name. Sent to tell the apostles, she earned the ancient title ‘apostle to the apostles.’
