Life
The mistress of the house at Bethany where Jesus loved to stay; the doer beside her listening sister Mary. He teased her gently — ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled over many things’ — and she took it, because she could speak her mind to him too.
When her brother Lazarus died, she went out to meet the Lord on the road and made a confession the equal of Peter’s: ‘I have believed that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God, who has come into this world.’ The Church now keeps her feast with Mary and Lazarus together.
