Life
The parents of the Virgin Mary, named by a tradition reaching back to the second century: Joachim and Anne, an aged and childless couple whose prayers were answered with the girl full of grace.
In them the Church honors the grandparents of Jesus and the hidden generations of Israel whose faithfulness prepared the Incarnation. Devotion to good St. Anne — patroness of mothers, grandmothers, and Brittany and Quebec besides — has warmed the Church for centuries.
