Life
A Berber Christian of Thagaste married to a pagan with a temper, whom she converted at the last, as she converted, by seventeen years of tears and prayers, her brilliant runaway son Augustine. She followed him from Africa to Rome to Milan; a bishop assured her that the son of so many tears could not be lost.
She lived to see him baptized. Days before her death at Ostia, mother and son stood at a window talking of heaven until, as he wrote, they touched it for an instant. She asked only to be remembered at the altar of the Lord.
