Life
The twin, blunt and brave: ready to die with Jesus at Bethany — ‘Let us go, too, so that we may die with him’ — and unwilling to believe the Resurrection on hearsay, unless he could place his finger into the place of the nails. A week later the Lord offered him exactly that, and Thomas answered with the New Testament’s plainest confession: ‘My Lord and my God.’
Tradition carries him farthest of all the Twelve: to Persia and to India, where the ancient Thomas Christians of the Malabar coast keep his memory, and where he died by the spear at Mylapore.
