A worldly Spanish canon whose horse threw him into the mud before a laughing crowd — and who rose a changed man, became a Dominican, preached to soldiers and sailors on the docks of Galicia, and is invoked by Spanish seamen as ‘St. Elmo’ whose fire dances on the mast.
