Life
King of France at twelve, formed by his mother Blanche, who would rather have seen him dead than in mortal sin. He judged under the oak of Vincennes, fed beggars from his table, built the Sainte-Chapelle for the Crown of Thorns, twice took the cross, and died of fever before Tunis with ‘Jerusalem’ on his lips. Europe took him for the very model of a Christian king.
