Life
A peasant girl of Domrémy who heard the voices of Michael, Margaret, and Catherine telling her to save France. At seventeen she broke the siege of Orléans and stood beside the Dauphin at his crowning in Reims.
Captured and sold to the English, she was tried by churchmen who twisted her candor, and burned at Rouen at nineteen, calling on the name of Jesus. A new trial cleared her twenty-five years later; she was canonized in 1920.
