Life
Bishop of Benevento, martyred at Pozzuoli in Diocletian’s persecution while visiting imprisoned deacons. Naples holds his relics and the ampulla of his blood, which liquefies — before vast crowds — on his feast; whatever science makes of it, the city’s love of ‘San Gennaro’ is itself a wonder seventeen centuries old.
