Life
Archbishop of Seville for nearly four decades as Roman Spain became Visigothic Spain, he converted kings from Arianism and presided over councils that shaped the Spanish church for centuries.
His Etymologies attempted to gather all human knowledge into one book; the Middle Ages read it for a thousand years. For that encyclopedic reach he has been proposed as patron of the internet.

Reading the Holy Scriptures confers two benefits: it trains the mind to understand them, and it turns man's attention from the follies of the world and leads him to the love of God.
