Life
A widowed Roman deacon elected pope — his son would be pope after him — who healed the thirty-five-year Acacian schism between Rome and Constantinople. The formula the Eastern bishops signed, confessing the apostolic see’s unfailing faith, bears his name in the Church’s memory.
