A Venetian lawyer-priest who founded the Theatines to reform the clergy by living the apostolic life — owning nothing, not even begging: waiting on Providence alone. He founded hospitals for incurables and pawnshop-banks to free the poor from usurers, and died on a bed of ashes at Naples.
