Life
A Greek-born hermit of the Provençal forest, whose companion — legend says — was a deer, and who was crippled by a hunter’s arrow meant for her. The abbey that grew at his hermitage became a great pilgrimage; he was invoked across medieval Europe as patron of cripples and beggars, one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
