Life

A poor girl of Lucca who longed for Passion and received it: from twenty-one she bore the stigmata, ridiculed by neighbors and examined by doctors while remaining transparently humble and cheerful.

Refused entry to every convent for her health, she lived as a laywoman in a borrowed household and died at twenty-five on Holy Saturday. Her letters and diary breathe a fierce, simple love of Jesus crucified.

In their own words

Each quotation names the work it comes from. Bless quotes these in the comments beside the verses listed under In Scripture.

If you really want to love Jesus, first learn to suffer, because suffering teaches you to love.

Letters to Fr. Germano, c. 1901

O Jesus, I love You so much. Your love is my life.

Diary, 1900
