Life
A Hungarian princess married at fourteen to the Landgrave of Thuringia — a genuine love match, rare in royal marriages. She bore three children, and scandalized the court by dressing simply, feeding hundreds daily at the castle gate, and building a hospital below the Wartburg where she nursed the sick herself.
Widowed at twenty when her husband died on crusade, she was driven from the castle, embraced Franciscan poverty, and spent her last years serving the poor of Marburg with her own hands. She died at twenty-four, already loved as the great almsgiver of the age.
