Life
The first flower of Francis’s garden: a young noblewoman of Assisi who slipped out on Palm Sunday night, had her hair cut by Francis himself, and founded the Poor Ladies at San Damiano.
She fought popes for the ‘privilege of poverty’ — the right to own nothing at all — and won it on her deathbed. Twice her prayer before the Blessed Sacrament turned besieging armies from the city.

Go forth in peace, for you have followed the good road. Go forth without fear, for He who created you has made you holy.
