Life
An orphan of the Italian lake country, a Franciscan tertiary who saw that the neglect of girls was the ruin of families — and did something no one had done: founded a company of women, under St. Ursula’s name, living consecrated lives in their own homes, teaching girls where they found them.
The Ursulines became the Church’s first great teaching order of women. Her testament breathes her method: her daughters were to be bound to one another by charity, esteeming, helping, and bearing with one another.
