Life
Four (or five) stone-carvers of the Pannonian quarries who worked marvels for Diocletian but would not carve an idol of Aesculapius, nor sacrifice — and were drowned in the river in leaden boxes. The masons’ guilds of medieval Europe, and their successors, kept the feast of the craftsmen who would not carve a god.
