First Reading Acts 11:21b-26; 13:1-3

  • 21And the hand of the Lord was with them. And a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.

  • 22Now the news came to the ears of the Church at Jerusalem about these things, and they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch.

  • 23And when he had arrived there and had seen the grace of God, he was gladdened. And he exhorted them all to continue in the Lord with a resolute heart.

  • 24For he was a good man, and he was filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a great multitude was added to the Lord.

  • 25Then Barnabas set out for Tarsus, so that he might seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch.

  • 26And they were conversing there in the Church for an entire year. And they taught such a great multitude, that it was at Antioch that the disciples were first known by the name of Christian.

  • Some verses are not read.
  • 13:1Now there were, in the Church at Antioch, prophets and teachers, among whom were Barnabas, and Simon, who was called the Black, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manahen, who was the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

  • 2Now as they were ministering for the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said to them: “Separate Saul and Barnabas for me, for the work for which I have selected them.”

  • 3Then, fasting and praying and imposing their hands upon them, they sent them away.

Gospel Matthew 5:27-32

  • 27You have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

  • 28But I say to you, that anyone who will have looked at a woman, so as to lust after her, has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

  • 29And if your right eye causes you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than that your whole body be cast into Hell.

  • 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you. For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than that your whole body go into Hell.

  • 31And it has been said: ‘Whoever would dismiss his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce.’

  • 32But I say to you, that anyone who will have dismissed his wife, except in the case of fornication, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever will have married her who has been dismissed commits adultery.

Computed by Bless from the US Lectionary cycle — confirm with your parish.

In US parishes the readings are proclaimed from the NABRE; the text shown here is the Catholic Public Domain Version.

Old Testament readings and the psalm are listed with a link to their chapter: the US Lectionary numbers some of their verses differently from the CPDV, so their text is not printed here. Psalm citations keep the Lectionary’s Hebrew numbering; the CPDV numbers the Psalms as the Vulgate does.
