Life
Simon the Zealot, who traded revolution for the kingdom, and Jude Thaddaeus, who asked at the Last Supper why the Lord would show himself to the disciples and not the world. The Church remembers them together, as tradition says they died together in Persia.
Jude’s one surviving letter urges the faithful to ‘contend earnestly for the faith that was handed down once to the saints.’ Long unasked because his name resembled the traitor’s, he became in recent centuries the patron of desperate and hopeless causes.
