Life
Born to a chieftain and a slave, she gave away her father’s goods to beggars until he let her go to God. Her double monastery at Kildare — the ‘church of the oak’ — became a center of learning and charity for all Ireland, which honors her beside Patrick as its patroness, ‘the Mary of the Gael.’
