Life
Hearing ‘sell what you have, and give to the poor’ read in church, he did exactly that and walked into the desert — where he wrestled demons for twenty years and emerged serene, the father of monasticism. He died at a hundred and five; Athanasius’s Life of him converted a generation, Augustine included.
