## Life

Bishop of Jerusalem through the worst of the Arian troubles — exiled three times, sixteen of his thirty-five years as bishop spent away from his see — and a shepherd who once sold church treasures to feed the starving, and was prosecuted for it.

His Catechetical Lectures, delivered in the Holy Sepulchre to candidates for baptism, walk step by step through the Creed and the sacraments: the finest window we have into how the fourth-century Church made Christians.
