## Mass readings (US)

### First Reading: Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b

Read in the CPDV: [Joshua 24](https://blessbible.app/bible/joshua/24/)

### Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 34:2-3, 16-17, 18-19, 20-21

Read in the CPDV: [Psalm 34 (33 in the Vulgate)](https://blessbible.app/bible/psalms/33/)

### Second Reading: Ephesians 5:21-32 or 5:2a, 25-32

- 21 Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
- 22 Wives should be submissive to their husbands, as to the Lord.
- 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church. He is the Savior of his body.
- 24 Therefore, just as the Church is subject to Christ, so also should wives be subject to their husbands in all things.
- 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and handed himself over for her,
- 26 so that he might sanctify her, washing her clean by water and the Word of life,
- 27 so that he might offer her to himself as a glorious Church, not having any spot or wrinkle or any such thing, so that she would be holy and immaculate.
- 28 So, too, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
- 29 For no man has ever hated his own flesh, but instead he nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ also does to the Church.
- 30 For we are a part of his body, of his flesh and of his bones.
- 31 “For this reason, a man shall leave behind his father and mother, and he shall cling to his wife; and the two shall be as one flesh.”
- 32 This is a great Sacrament. And I am speaking in Christ and in the Church.

### Alleluia: John 6:63c, 68c

Read in the CPDV: [John 6](https://blessbible.app/bible/john/6/)

### Gospel: John 6:60-69

- 61 Therefore, many of his disciples, upon hearing this, said: “This saying is difficult,” and, “Who is able to listen to it?”
- 62 But Jesus, knowing within himself that his disciples were murmuring about this, said to them: “Does this offend you?
- 63 Then what if you were to see the Son of man ascending to where he was before?
- 64 It is the Spirit who gives life. The flesh does not offer anything of benefit. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
- 65 But there are some among you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who were unbelieving and which one would betray him.
- 66 And so he said, “For this reason, I said to you that no one is able to come to me, unless it has been given to him by my Father.”
- 67 After this, many of his disciples went back, and they no longer walked with him.
- 68 Therefore, Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
- 69 Then Simon Peter answered him: “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
- 70 And we have believed, and we recognize that you are the Christ, the Son of God.”

Computed by Bless from the US Lectionary cycle — confirm with your parish.

In US parishes the readings are proclaimed from the NABRE; the text shown here is the Catholic Public Domain Version.

Old Testament readings and the psalm are listed with a link to their chapter: the US Lectionary numbers some of their verses differently from the CPDV, so their text is not printed here. Psalm citations keep the Lectionary’s Hebrew numbering; the CPDV numbers the Psalms as the Vulgate does.
